FAQs: Six Tips for Fabulous Engagement Outfit Choices

One of the most commonly asked questions I get from my brides is
"What do I wear to my engagement session? Help!"

I feel I have to point out, that while I'm no fashionista or fancy stylist, I do have an eye for what looks great paired together and what colors photograph well.

So instead of just sending you my Pinterest board of e-session guides and outfit styles, I figured I'd put together a blog post for my AFC Brides. Let's be honest, you already have so many things going on right now in your planning anyways! This post is all about giving my current and future AFC Brides some great tips and inspiration as you prep for your engagement session!

1. First up, think layers. Things like cardigans, sweaters, a scarf, a shaw, necklaces etc. Even a blanket would be super cute to wrap around the two of you to add some color and dimension. If you're like me I've always been super self conscious about my arms. So I love adding a cardigan to my outfits to disguise my arms and make them appear smaller.

2. Bold, contrasting colors. I just love bold and contrasting colors like maroon and navy blue, mustard yellow and browns, even emerald green and navy! If your dress is a bold solid color try pairing another bold color for your partner to wear. Take any of these color combinations I've suggested or come up with some of your own. The trick to this tip is stay away from pairing one bold color and a soft pastel color together.

3. Ombre color scheme. Like the image above, Alex and Connor chose outfits in the blue family. She wore dark navy blue and he wore a lighter sky blue. Ombre color schemes photograph so well!

4. Patterns. I love me a beautiful floral dress. Plaid and strips are fabulous too! The thing to remember about patterns though, is to have your partner wear a neutral color and the bigger the print the better. Sometimes my camera has a hard time picking up the tiny patter and the pictures can tend to have a weird glowing effect. Ewww!

5. Balance. Be sure to have you and your partner dressed in the same attire. If you're wearing a fancy cocktail dress it would be wise to have your fiancé in slacks and button up not shorts and flip flops.

6. Last but not least, comfort! I'm all about being comfortable in your clothes!! It is so important for the you to feel relaxed, confident, and beautiful on the day of the engagement session. Also, think about the practicality of the outfit. Will you will be moving or crouching a lot? Then a short dress might not be a great choice in this scenario, but longer dresses, maxi skirts, or pants would be a great place to start.

This is just one little way I feel I can help contribute to easing the stress leading up to your big day. The rest will come later. If you have any questions about outfits and styling your wardrobe send me an email or comment below with things you've noticed that work well together!
